The Preservers

The Family Leona is the closest Pillar family in proximity to the Founder and his Angels. Residing in the Founder’s Forest, they are presided over by a Matriarch who holds complete control over who enters the Realm. Because of this, the capital city of Intex is as close to a utopia as you can get, trumped solely by Akona.

At the center of the Intex, as well as the Realm itself resides the largest tree- dubbed Isla Leona, serving as the ancestral home of The Family Leona. as well as the head of government for the entire realm.

The Family Leona, as well as the people of the Realm are inspired heavily by both modern day Barcelona and Spain as a whole. They are my take on the heavily overused Elf trope, as far as their general feature go. But their main impact on the world is that they are the only healers throughout all 8 realms. In book one- Ascension, the Founder himself states that while he was the creator of life, the Leonas are the ones who had surpassed him at preserving it. This is due to their family being blessed with the remaining essence of the Generator of Life- The Bearer.

It is not for some time in the series, but Erica Leona- the heiress of the Leona family becomes the hostess for the remainder of The Bearer’s energy, providing a significant boon to the war against Black Haven and the threat of Damien Olmrun and Fear.

The Leonas were a major target of Tyrannus’s rebellion, as after his conquering of The Heavens, he planned to use them as cattle to breed the next generation of Regalias. But because they wield no offensive magic beyond their ability to heal, they are completely at the mercy of someone who does- which meant that aside from the nurturing support role, they barely offer much else. Upon Tyrannus’s defeat at the hands of Arthur, the Leonas shelter him and his brother Lessat- ruining their political relationship with the Akabane clan.

The Leonas are the moral backbone of the realms forced into chaos, and their light is what motivates the other families to reunite in order to fight against the impending doom coming from Black Haven.
